CBD products have been around for a while now, and their benefits are well known. What is less well known is the fact that CBD oil is actually very hard for the body to digest, meaning that when you take any form of it, much of it passes through without being absorbed. Water-soluble CBD is an alternative that the body can easily absorb, making it a much faster and more efficient option.
Issues with regular CBD oil
CBD (cannabidiol) is extracted from the cannabis plant to create an oil. This oil is sold as a pure tincture or can be consumed through food, pre-mixed drinks, or even external balms. All of these methods of consuming CBD can prove to be ineffective in many cases, due to the fact that the CBD is still in its oil form, and oil and water (the main component of the body) do not mix. The human body is made up of 60% water and human blood (one of the main absorption points for CBD) is comprised of approximately 92% water. The CBD cannot fully dissolve into the body, leaving the majority of it to exit without having any effect.
CBD oil has low bioavailability rates
The amount of CBD (or any substance or drug) that gets absorbed into the body is referred to as its bioavailability. CBD has a relatively low bioavailability rate, due to the fact that the majority of it cannot be absorbed by the water within the body and its systems. If you consume CBD products orally, the bioavailability rate is approximately 10 – 20%. This means that 80 – 90% of the CBD ingested this way simply passes through the body with no effect. Vaping CBD has the highest bioavailability but can only reach rates of up to 60%.
On the other hand, the bioavailability of water-soluble CBD is 90 – 100%.
How does water-soluble CBD differ?
Water-soluble CBD is still the exact same compound, it has just been broken down further to enable it to react more favorably with water. Nanotechnology is used to reduce CBD particles to approximately 100 nanometers in diameter, a size that can easily mix with water molecules. The phrase “water-soluble” is somewhat of a misnomer as it does not actually dissolve, but it does get dispersed through the water and is far easier to absorb into the bloodstream. This increases the bioavailability of CBD, making it more effective.
Benefits of water-soluble CBD
There are numerous benefits to making the switch to water-soluble CBD. The most significant is the fact that because a larger amount of CBD is able to be absorbed by the body, the effects of CBD are going to be greater. This benefits everyone who consumes CBD, but especially those who require high doses, which may be inconvenient to administer in some forms.
Water-soluble CBD also gets absorbed into the bloodstream a lot quicker than regular CBD oil. This is because it dissipates easier when ingested or placed on the skin, allowing you to feel its effects faster. As soon as it reaches the bloodstream it begins to dissipate swiftly, which combined with the increased bioavailability, means that users tend to report far greater experiences than with regular CBD.
